We had a really good time there. The host is amazing and really nice. He has a lot of good tips for the area. The place at the beach is beautiful and there are kayaks to take if you want to explore the laguna. The room was very clean, there was just a bit mold in the room. Bed is very comfortable and the bathroom clean. There is a mini fridge in the room with a few welcome beers in it and even a wine. Wifi is good too. Loved the place, would recommend at any time.
What a calm and lovely place! By the pictures I somehow imagined I would like Casa la Joya Bacalar, but I loved it! Highly recommended… I bet you won’t wanna miss this.
We enjoyed 3 nights at Casa La Joya while we explored beautiful Bacalar. Manuel and his staff were very welcoming ~ kindly having cold beer in the fridge and gifting a bottle of wine upon our arrival. Our room had everything we needed but I must say the outside area with direct access to the lake was our favourite. There is lots of seating and hammocks to relax in and also kayaks and paddleboards for the guests to use. We watched the most amazing sunrises from here. It is about a 20 minute walk to restaurants and such, however there are always taxis available if needed. Bacalar lake is truly amazing and getting out on a boat tour is a must. Manuel booked a tour for us and that was super helpful. We would definitely stay again.
I really can’t understand the bad opinions. We booked the standard room (not the fancy one) and it was good! (A bit overpriced, but it seems like everything in Mexico is…) + beers and water as we arrived, + water and coffee refilled daily, + free canoes (4) and SUP (1), + chilled place that feels that you’re always alone - our sink was way too small. No way to be able to brush your teeth there (a shelf right above it making it impossible to do anything). Please change it - only 3 canoes paddles, from which one was broken - the house next door is being built so there is so much noise (drill in a wall etc) from 8am There is so many comments about ants. To be honest - yes there are ants in the property, it’s in the middle of a jungle, right at the lake front - of course there are ants. This is simple - if you don’t want ants, don’t eat in your room or leave food around (you have a fridge). We didn’t have issue with ants at all. Taxis to the town were 40-60 pesos. The number provided by the owner was good but make sure to settle the price before booking, as the drivers sometimes are a bit funky with the prices. Food place 5 mins away (taco loco) is super tasty!!!!!
